My family of origin has a long history of substance abuse and PTSD. Many of the significant men in my life served honorably in the United States military and all of them suffered with the effects of PTSD and alcoholism. I saw first-hand the effects of the struggles and wanted to do something to make a difference. I am blessed to get to come to work at Warriors Heart.
When a close family member began to struggle, I made the decision to learn as much as I could about substance abuse which led me to Al Anon and changed my life in ways I could not have imagined. Attending open AA meetings helped me learn compassion and have a better understanding of what so many go through.
My Why is simple – I am proud of our military and first responders. They are my heroes.
