Through the years working EMS and ER work, I have seen the challenges and quick assessment responses necessary to do the job and safely treat and/or save lives. This can wear down the strongest ones with the keenest ability to sense when a patient is about to turn bad, as they are not rewarded nor debriefed. They are just expected to “carry on”. The difference working at Warrior’s Heart provides is the sense of connection and working with family. To have the blessing of truly HEARING clients experiences and caring is WHY I became a nurse. Unfortunately, nursing in several settings does not provide this opportunity anymore as nurses are not nurtured to be able to nurture clients in the hospital setting. WH is refreshingly different. I have been working at another detox facility and heard about WH from a co-worker. I look forward to getting to share in several “adventures” of recovery and LOVE to see the difference in the eyes of clients once the “light comes back into their eyes”.
