My Why: Larry Batto

Larry Batto
Sous Chef

Larry hails from San Antonio, but has roots that stretch to the founding of Bandera. He resides on the family homestead which has the distinction to be registered with the Texas Department of Agriculture as a Century Ranch (it has been in continuous operation by the same family for over 100 years).

Larry is a US Navy Veteran with 11 years experience in electronics. He was an instructor at a multi-service school in Denver Colorado, and alter as a technical writer for a government contractor in Memphis, Tennessee.

Returning to Texas, his career field changed to the culinary arts as a means to support his growin family. He has worked under many chefs including one of the few master chefs and another studying to become a master chef. Boasting nearly 30 years experience, he has a passion for cooking, great tasting food, and making divine desserts.

Larry has struggled with eating disorders which included bariatric surgery. When he heard about Warriors Heart, he knew that it was the place he needed to be.

My Why:

Having struggled with eating disorders my entire life (including surgery), when I heard about Warriors Heart I was intrigued by the idea of helping others having difficult times. I was tempted several times to apply but always found a reason to postpone. Finally, while recovering from surgery, God gave me a subtle push in this direction. I now feel that I have found the home I always desired. As such, I am proud to feed our clients and staff who have made such a difference in our great country.
