My Why: Rachel Mickelsen

Rachel Mickelsen
Clinical Director

Rachel Mickelsen is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), a Nationally Board-Certified Counselor, and a Level 2 Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II) specializing in Accelerated Resolution Therapy and EMDR. Rachel has years of experience working in both chemical dependency and behavioral health roles at Warriors Heart. She also has experience in private practice and working for the Defense Health Agency Addiction Medicine programs at Brooke Army Medical Center.

As an Army brat, she spent much of her childhood in Germany and has lived in the Texas Hill Country for over twenty years. She enjoys spending time with her family (especially her grandkids), golfing, and watching hockey. She is pursuing a PhD in Psychology with an emphasis on Behavioral Health Leadership.

My Why:

As the granddaughter of two Navy Veterans, the daughter of an Army Veteran, the wife of an Air Force Veteran, and the mother of a Marine, service and sacrifice have been an expectation and a privilege in my family for generations. Nothing compares to the triumphs and sorrows accompanying the path of the Warrior class and their families.

Helping people heal is my life’s passion. I can’t imagine a more fulfilling way to utilize my skills and training than walking alongside those who have given everything to protect and defend. It is my sacred honor to hold a space for these brave men and women as they heal, recover, and return home.
