Astrid was born and raised in Bavaria, Germany and discovered her love for medicine and languages early in life. After a foray into medical school, she decided that she wanted to pursue her passion for languages, instead. Living in a military community, she used her degree in languages to get a position as a translator at the Provost Marshal Office for the US Army and later as a patient liaison specialist, where she was able to help the servicemembers and their families navigate the unfamiliar territory of a foreign healthcare system. She met her husband during that time and the family was eventually transferred back to the US until his retirement from the military. Aside from raising three sons, Astrid worked in various fields, from the construction business to international engagement at the Chamber of Commerce to Localization work in the IT sector. Her life took her all over the country and she has finally settled in Texas, where she found Warriors Heart in her search for a meaningful occupation. In a way, she feels that working for Warriors Heart is as much of a homecoming for her as it is for our warriors.

My Why:

I feel that coming to Warriors Heart was like coming full circle in my life. The US Military was the first family that welcomed me with open arms into my professional life. It is where I met my husband, who was a Military Policeman, and it is where two of my three sons found a second family. My oldest son is a 15-year veteran of the Military, former LEO, and now volunteer firefighter for his community, while my youngest is still active duty in the Army. Now, I get to give back to the community who was so ready to give me my first home. Being part of this sanctuary that helps those who have served and helped their country and communities and now need help themselves because they are suffering as a result has given my life meaning, as well. I am home.
