My Why

My Why: Andy Greenbaum

Andy Greenbaum
Executive Chef

Andy was born and raised in St. Tammany Parish in Southeast Louisiana. He grew up playing sports and hunting and fishing in the bayous and backwoods. He learned he enjoyed cooking at an early age learning from his mom and grandmother. He began working in restaurants at the age of fifteen and never looked back. Andy enjoys spending time with his children, jogging, and being in the outdoors.

My Why:
I knew from an early age both sides of my family had issues with substance abuse, I always thought I would never end up like that. That all changed a year after my father died at the age of fifteen, I began experimenting with drugs and alcohol. I can remember always wanting to feel like that. The progression of the disease took me in and out of treatment centers, a homeless mission at one point, and experienced enough misery and loss until I finally took my last drink on August 5th 2019.

I have been at Warriors Heart for several months now and have experienced no greater joy than serving the men and women who have served this nation. My heroes growing up were my grandfathers who served in WW2, one being an alcoholic. Working here I finally feel purpose in my life. I have never had a job where I woke up every morning wanting to go to work because I knew I was taking part of something that was for the greater good of others.
