My Why: Emily Cox

Emily Cox
RN

Emily Cox was born in Indiana, raised in Michigan and has called Virginia home for 22 years.  Emily has been married to her husband, Chris, for 13 years.  She is “mumma” to Kylie and Kayla and stepmom to 3 bonus children. Emily completed her nursing degree in 2005 and has worked in several fields of nursing including women’s health, eating disorders/inpatient rehab, and pediatrics.  She is ready for a change and excited to be a part of Warrior’s Heart. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, antique shopping with her husband, collecting vintage Pyrex, various crafts and quilting.

My why:

I have a deep sense of respect and appreciation for all the men and women who have served or are serving in our armed forces and as first responders.  In my family there is a strong military presence.  My daddy, father-in-law, cousins and son in law all served in the Army, and some have now moved on to be LEO and firefighters.  My uncle was a Marine and was wounded in Vietnam, earning a purple heart.   I feel like we as a country are lacking in our support for our military and first responders.  I believe that our active duty, veterans and first responders deserve access to excellent care and treatment to assist them in healing from PTSD and substance abuse.  I am thankful for the chance to be a part of that healing journey.
