Isabel Kohuth
LPC
Isabel was born and raised in the suburbs outside of Boulder, Colorado where she spent her childhood hiking, dancing, and laughing with her parents and twin sister. She moved to Philadelphia, PA to complete her BA at Temple University and then to Norfolk, VA to complete her MS in Art Therapy and Counseling at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Isabel is a board certified art therapist in addition to a licensed counselor, focused on using the creative process to promote healing and wellness. Throughout her career thus far, Isabel has served populations with a focus on trauma informed lenses and integrating person-centered care and genuineness into practices. From placements in school and following, populations served have ranged from high risk domestic violence, juvenile detention centers, VA, in-home services, and the community services board. In her downtime, Isabel can be found with her dog, cat, and bunny, spending time with good friends, watching bad tv, making mediocre art, and/or in the sunshine.
My Why:
I have been privileged to know that being an art therapist has always been my passion and my dream. My work is heavily focused on trauma informed and neuroscience theories combining creativity and client centered care. My connection to the veteran, active duty, and first responder population has both personal and professional ties. I have been surrounded by veterans throughout my life – through retired grandparents whose stories, emotions, and struggles remain silent to this day, through retired Navy family whose stories are never ending, and through active duty family and friends. I have professionally encountered military, active duty, and veterans in DV, VA, school, and community based settings. With every connection, it’s been an honor to be a part of their journey, to be a piece of their life. I’m so grateful to have found my way to Warriors Heart and to continue on this journey too!
