Transitioning from military service or first responder duty to civilian life is never easy. The structure, purpose, and deep bonds built in the field are often irreplaceable. For many warriors, the shift into civilian life brings isolation, confusion, and an invisible weight carried from years of service and sacrifice.
Warriors Heart was built by Warriors for Warriors.
The Lingering Effects of Trauma and Addiction
Throughout U.S. history, our nation has relied on military personnel, veterans, and first responders to serve on the front lines—both foreign and domestic. That service often comes at a personal cost. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, and co-occurring mental health issues are common among these groups.
When warriors return home, many experience emotional triggers, sleep issues, depression, anxiety, or turn to alcohol or drugs as a coping mechanism.
The pressure to stay strong, the stigma around asking for help, and the lack of real support can break down even the toughest warriors.
A Place for Healing: Veteran-Focused Drug Rehab and PTSD Treatment
At Warriors Heart, we offer a private and specialized drug and alcohol rehab program for veterans, active-duty military, law enforcement, and first responders. Here, healing is not about removing your warrior identity—it’s about restoring it.
We treat addiction, chemical dependency, and PTSD through a holistic, evidence-based approach that addresses mind, body, and spirit. We also offer unique electives that help reconnect warriors with their sense of purpose.
One of our unique offerings? Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: More Than a Martial Art
For warriors at Warriors Heart, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more than a workout. It’s a form of therapy, a mission, and a path to recovery from addiction and trauma.
“What happens on the mat is a reflection of what’s happening off the mat in our lives,” says Warriors Heart Founder and BJJ Coach Josh Lannon.
“At Warriors Heart, we don’t want to impede that Warrior spirit – we embrace it.”
BJJ teaches mental clarity, emotional regulation, and personal discipline—all essential tools in the recovery journey. Many of our warriors find strength through physical training that directly complements their drug rehab and PTSD therapy.
“It is not just a way of life; it is a way of saving a life,” Lannon says.
Rebuilding Mind, Body & Mission
As an elective program at Warriors Heart, our BJJ program provides our warriors, veterans and first responders with:
- A healthy outlet for stress and adrenaline
- A chance to rebuild confidence and focus
- A powerful sense of community and camaraderie
- A tool to face fears, release ego, and grow stronger—physically and emotionally
This is not about fighting others—it’s about mastering for ourselves.
From Recovery to Redemption: Competing with Purpose
Recently, the Warriors Heart BJJ team competed in the IBJJF World Tournament in Las Vegas, winning medals (golds, silver and bronzes) and representing what real recovery looks like.
Our Warriors Heart Jiu-Jitsu team showed up not only for the tournament, but for their team and for themselves—for their recovery.
“Not everyone wants to compete,” says Lannon. “For those who do—especially at a level like the IBJJF Worlds—and come out with a win, it’s a powerful and beautiful thing to be part of.”
